FIFA president mourns death of Taiwo Ogunjobi, burial date announced

Gianni Infantino, president of world football governing body, FIFA, has mourned the death of Taiwo Ogunjobi, former secretary general of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

In a letter addressed to the president of Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday, Gianni Infantino expressed the pain of the international community at the death of the former administrator.

“His legacy and achievement – on and off the pitch – will not be forgotten, and he will be truly missed.

“On behalf of the international football community, I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the Nigeria Football Federation, and to Taiwo’s family, friends and loved ones. Our thoughts are with all of you.

“We hope that these memories and our words of support may help bring some peace and solace at this difficult time,” he wrote in parts.

Tunde Shamsudeen, a personal assistant of the deceased administrator expressed thanks to the sporting community on behalf of the Ogunjobi family.

He also announced the dates for the final burial rites of Mr Ogunjobi.

“To this end, we wish to announce to the General public that the final ‘home’ going proceedings would take place between Wednesday 13th and Friday 15th of March, 2019 in Ibadan, Oyo State. 

“Full details of events would be published at a later date.

Once again, we thank you all for your immense and immeasurable support and prayers. God bless,” part of his statement read.

Taiwo Ogunjobi died on February 11 after a brief illness.

Ogunjobi was until his death the chairman of the Osun State Football Association.
