World football governing body, FIFA, has announced plans to take over administrative control of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
CAF president, Ahmad Ahmad, has proposed the idea to the association’s Executive Committee in Cairo on Wednesday.
The resolution to seek FIFA’s expertise to assess the current situation in the African governing body and help to conclusively accelerate the implementation of the ongoing reform was unanimously approved.
FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura will be appointed a FIFA General Delegate for Africa for a 6-month period from 1 August 2019 to 31 January 2020.
Part of Ms. Samoura’s brief will be to undertake a full forensic audit of the association as soon as possible.
African football has been rocked by the arrest of Ahmad Ahmad in Paris by the central office for the fight against corruption and financial and fiscal offences (OCLIF) earlier in June.
