Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested a suspect in connection to the murder of a job seeker Iniobong Umoren.
State police spokesperson Odiko Macdon in a statement on Sunday alleged that 20-year-old Uduak Akpan lured Ms Umoren to his residence under the pretext of offering her a job before he raped, killed and buried the young graduate.
Umoren went missing while attending a supposed job interview in Akwa Ibom on Thursday.
She had earlier tweeted that she needed a job. Some persons then suggested prospective employers to her.
However, her friend Umoh Uduak raised alarm on Thursday that Umoren was nowhere to be found.
The police statement alleged Mr Akpan confessed to have lured his victim to his house in the guise of giving her a job, but ended up sexually and physically assaulting her which led to her death.
“To cover his tracks, he dragged and buried her in a shallow grave in his father’s compound,” the statement read.
“The deceased has been exhumed and deposited at UUTH (University Of Uyo Teaching Hospital) for autopsy.”
The statement further alleged the suspect confessed to be a serial rapist.
The state commissioner of police Amienghene Andrew, according to the statement, called on youths and job seekers to be wary of the activities of scammers.
The commissioner also condoled with the deceased’s family and friends.
