A branch of Access Bank Plc located on the campus of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State was gutted by fire on Monday.
Some offices and automated teller machines (ATMs) were destroyed by the fire.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but there are reports that a power surge could have caused it.
PUNCH quoted an eyewitness as saying: “The fire incident affected the four new ATMs that were installed at the bank; also, some offices were gutted by the fire.
“It took the quick intervention of the men of the fire services department of the university before the situation could be brought under control.
“For some hours, members of staff of the bank were unable to gain access to the bank as they were all outside discussing the incident.”
AAUA Head of Media and Public Relations Unit, Sola Imoru, told the newspaper correspondent on the telephone that the fire did not have any impact on the school and members of the university community.
“The fire occurred in the morning in the bank area on the campus when nobody was around.
“However, our staff and students are safe; the fire has no impact on any activity on the campus,” Mr Imoru said.
