A careless handling of a naked fire on Thursday morning resulted in the outbreak of fire at a welder’s workshop located at Better Life Area, Sabo, in Oyo town.

Mr Yemi Akinyinka, general manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday.

Akinyinka attributed the cause of the fire to carelessness on the part of an apprentice who forgot to completely put out the firewood used to cook inside the workshop before the close of work on Wednesday.

He said the agency’s personnel received a distress call about the incident at about 12:11a.m. on Thursday morning from one Mujidat Olalere and immediately deployed its personnel to the scene.

“On arrival, we met a welder’s workshop well alighted and the agency’s officers quickly arrested the fire and extinguished it without allowing it to affect other nearby buildings and properties.

“The fire incident was a result of an apprentice cooking with firewood inside the shop and who forgot to adequately put out the fire before the close of the day, and this set the workshop on fire at midnight,” he said.
