Headquarters of the Nigerian Postal Service in Garki II, Abuja has been hit by an early morning fire on Wednesday.
Firefighters from the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service have begun efforts to put out the fire.
The incident was said to have begun around 8:40 am.
An eyewitness, Adamu Bala, told NAN that he drew the attention of security officers guarding the building when he saw smoke coming from the back of the building.
The Postmaster General of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) Adebayo Adewusi, tweeted later in the day that the fire had been contained.
He said there was no loss of vital document in the fire outbreak.
“No Cause for Alarm @NipostNgn@NIPOSTNG over the fire that touched our Office of (Staff) Posting under the Personnel Unit. No damage to any vital document was recorded.
“It has also caused no disruption to any of our operations. We thank men of the @Fedfireng who responded,” he wrote.
