First Bank breaks ground on Nigeria’s tallest eco-friendly headquarters at Eko Atlantic

First Bank of Nigeria Limited will on Wednesday hold the groundbreaking ceremony for its new green-certified headquarters at Eko Atlantic City, Lagos.

A statement by the bank’s Acting Group Head, Marketing & Corporate Communications, Olayinka Ijabiyi, described the 40-storey project as an engineering and environmental landmark, poised to be the tallest building in Nigeria.

“It will be an engineering and environmental delight due to its technologically advanced, eco-friendly and sophisticated construction which would set a new standard for the financial services sector in Africa,” the statement read in part.

According to Ijabiyi, the ceremony marks the beginning of a transformative journey that underscores the bank’s dedication to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction. The new headquarters, he said, is designed to be sustainable, reducing operational costs while positioning FirstBank as a leader in eco-friendly banking.

Chief Executive Officer of First Bank Group, Olusegun Alebiosu, described the event as “a significant milestone” in the bank’s legacy.

“Our new Head Office is envisioned as a world-class structure that represents our dedication to innovation, customer satisfaction, and sustainability. We believe that this development will play a crucial role in fostering economic growth and development across Africa, creating long-term value for all our stakeholders,” he said.

Chairman of FirstHoldCo, Femi Otedola, emphasized the role of collaboration in realizing the project.

“Today’s gathering highlights the importance of collaboration and support from various sectors in bringing our ambitious plans for the new headquarters to life. We appreciate the unrelenting support from our customers and stakeholders as we work together to turn this vision into reality,” he said.

With a history spanning over 130 years, FirstBank has remained at the forefront of innovation and sustainable banking.

The ceremony is expected to be attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, senators, lawmakers, state governors, federal ministers, and captains of industry.
