The first female first-class graduate from the Faculty of Law of Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) Ebizi Eradiri has been named the new face of Bayelsa girl child.
Ms Eradiri was handed the role on Monday by Governor Douye Diri.
This followed backlash from Bayelsans after Big Brother Naija star Nengi was given the role in November 2020.
Nengi had revealed during the Big Brother Naija show that she underwent liposuction.
Meanwhile, Eradiri also made first class at the Nigerian Law School.
According to a statement by the governor’s chief press secretary Daniel Alabrah, Eradiri was offered scholarship for further studies and employment at the NDU law faculty.
Diri announced this to the young lawyer and her father Boloupaye Eradiri at the Government House, Yenagoa.
The governor also dismissed speculations, particularly in the social media, about his administration’s choice of honouring Nengi while refusing to recognise Eradiri.
“Today has brought to an end speculations, especially in the new media, about our refusal to honour Barr. Eradiri while we have honoured Nengi of the Big Brother Naija fame. This is a blatant lie,” he said.
In her brief remarks, Eradiri expressed gratitude to the governor for the honour done to her, attributing her success to God and her exposure to good educational infrastructure.
