Kano State has recorded its first coronavirus-related death, one day after Governor Abdullahi Ganduje declared a total lockdown in the state.
The state’s ministry of health confirmed the death on Wednesday night via Twitter.
It also confirmed 12 new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 21 within one week.
“As at Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at 11:55 p.m., one death from COVID-19 was recorded in Kano State,” it said.
“As at the same time, 12 additional cases of COVID-19 were confirmed, bringing the total number to 21.”
Kano will remain in lockdown until April 21 after which the government said it would review the situation if an extension would be necessary.
