Former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, on Wednesday breathed the air of freedom for the first time since his arrest in Dubai on May 13, 2010.
Ibori was extradited to London from Dubai and sentenced to 13 years in jail for money laundering offences by the Southwark Crown Court in 2012, and served his term at Huntercombe Prison in Oxfordshire.
He was released on the order of Judge Juliet May (QC) of the Royal Court of Justice after serving half of his sentence, taking into account pre-trial detention.
The judge ruled against the Home Office which had decided that the 57-year-old will not be released on the ground that his assets confiscation proceeding had not been concluded.
His release sparked wild jubilation among his supporters at home and abroad.
Below are some of the pictures taken shortly after he stepped out of prison.
