Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Limited Ibukun Awosika has congratulated Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her appointment as director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala made history on Monday when she was named first female and first African to lead the organisation.
Awosika praised the former minister of finance, saying she exemplifies the Nigerian woman.
“Celebrating a great Nigerian. The Nigerian woman is a game changer, she is brilliant, beautiful, resilient, courageous, full of wisdom and has the capacity to take on the world without fear,” the boardroom guru said in an Instagram post.
“Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala truly exemplifies the Nigerian woman, the world will be glad to have her as the World Trade Organisation’s Director-General.”
The WTO members took the decision to appoint Okonjo-Iweala at a special meeting of the General Council, following a selection process that included eight candidates from around the world.
Her tenure begins on March 1, 2021.
