FirstBank has refuted allegations of fraud levelled against it by a customer, Dr. Agbai Eke, describing the claims as “entirely unfounded and false.”
In a statement issued on Friday, the bank responded to reports published by Thisday Newspaper, Arise News and a circulating video concerning a court case filed by Dr. Eke.
According to FirstBank, investigations into the matter revealed unprofessional and unethical dealings between Dr. Eke and a former bank employee, who allegedly exploited a personal relationship to facilitate unauthorized transactions outside the bank’s knowledge or involvement.
“As the matter is currently before the Court, we will refrain from further comments to allow the Court to dispassionately determine the issues before it,” the statement read.
FirstBank also disclosed that it had reported the case to law enforcement agencies, who are conducting further investigations. “The suspects have made useful statements while the investigations are ongoing,” the statement added.
The bank reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of its customers’ interests. “We assure our stakeholders that we operate with the highest standards of integrity and professionalism,” it said.
FirstBank urged the public to disregard the allegations while awaiting the court’s determination of the matter.
