Nothing screams real celebrity status on Instagram than to have your account verified. However, only a handful of Nigerian celebrities like Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Don Jazzy, Genevieve Nnaji and Davido have that honour.
You will be surprised at the names of some well-known celebrities still on the unverified list. We look at five of them.
- 2face
No of followers: 663k
He is described as legendary because of his consistency since he entered the music industry in 1996. With multiple awards under his belt including a MOBO, MAMA, KORA and BET Award, it is unarguable that the 40-year-old should be the first verified artiste on the photo sharing media. However, reverse is the case.
- Wizkid
No of followers: 1.1 million
Wizkid is recorded as the second most followed Nigerian celebrity on Instagram, yet his Instagram handle does not carry the verified badge.
- Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
No of followers: 367k
Ranked as one of the most influential people in the world in 2013 by TIME magazine, it is hard to believe that beautiful Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde does not have a verified badge on her Instagram handle.
- Peter and Paul Okoye
No of followers 690k, 300k
Winning the Artiste of the Decade Award at the 2015 MAMA Awards made P-Square the biggest group in Nigeria. That, amongst their other success stories is enough to make them a global brand.
Unfortunately, the Okoye brothers are not verified on the photo sharing platform.
- Ice Prince

He was the recipient of the 2013 BET award for Best African Act. Ice Prince has also been named one of the best rappers in Nigeria. However, the Chocolate City act is not among the few Nigerians that have been verified.
