Football fans react to Diego Costa’s eight-match ban

Football fans have reacted to news that Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Costa, has been banned for eight games after being found guilty of abusing a referee.

The 30-year-old former Chelsea forward was sent off by Jesus Gil Manzano during Atletico’s 2-0 loss to Barcelona in La Liga on Sunday.

Manzano said in his match report that the Spanish international had “insulted his mother”, a claim Costa denied.

The Spanish Football Federation’s ban rules him out of Atletico’s remaining La Liga fixtures this season.

Wow Diego Costa gets 8 game ban for his comments to the ref (and grabbing his arm). I’m not defending him but that seems a lot no matter what was said. I guess it sets a strong standard on how you treat referees but I do wonder if it didn’t help that it was him
