Former chairman of Badagry Local Government (BLG) Moses Owolabani, who died on October 19, 2024, has been buried.

He was born on April 19, 1941, to the Owolabani royal family of Ajara.

Owolabani was buried on Saturday at 2:10pm in his Ajara house after prayers and messages by Christian clerics.

In his sermon, superior evangelist Peter Jiwemeto of the Celestial Church of Christ, Ileri Oluwa Central Parish, Apa, was full of praises for the deceased.

Speaking shortly after the burial, chairman of BLG Olusegun Onilude said he was thrilled that the whole of Badagry rose to celebrate the life of the ex-chairman.

“Everywhere is covered. In our own estimation, Owolabani, fondly called Naminadu, has done well and that’s why everyone thronged out to celebrate him.

“Owolabani was one of the few chairmen that distinguished themselves in terms of performance in infrastructural development that we can make reference to.

“Those of us who want to make impact have taken his exemplary tenure as a blueprint too.

“The former chairman has left indelible footprints. It is not the number of years that one spends that matters, but the impact you left behind,” Onilude said.

The lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency 2 in Lagos State House of Assembly and Deputy Chief-Whip Setonji David described the former chairman as a compassionate leader.

According to David, Owolabani was ready to do anything for the development of Badagry.

Also, a former House of Representatives’ member Joseph Bamgbose said the deceased contributed in no small measure to the development of Badagry.

“I pray that the house and the party he left behind will not suffer in any form,” he said.

Former permanent secretary in Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dr Babatunde Mesewaku used the occasion to launch a book titled Exit of A Colossus in Owolabani’s honour.
