Former Imo governor Ikedi Ohakim fights dirty with mistress

A former governor of Imo State Ikedi Ohakim is involved in a dispute with a woman Chinyere Amuchienwa he had a romantic relationship with.

Ms Amuchienwa, a 56-year-old divorcee, deals in luxury items and lives in Lagos.

Ohakim on the other hand has been married for 39 years to a lawyer Chioma Ohakim. They have five children and grandchildren.

According to Premium Times, Ohakim filed a petition dated January 20 to the Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu saying: “On Saturday, January 18, 2020, Miss Chinyere physically assaulted me. She deceived me and lured me with a meeting request. I subsequently invited her to my hotel room at BON Hotel, Asokoro and she arrived at about 20:15 p.m.

“Directly I opened the door quite innocently, pandemonium took over, she bounced on me grabbing me by my shirt with all her strength and gave me a violent push.

“As I staggered to recover, she rushed for my phone on the table and a struggle ensured (sic). Directly I retrieved the phones from her she immediately rushed to grab something from her bag which I strongly suspected to be a gun.”

The ex-governor said he ran outside his room, shouting for help, adding that his claim could be confirmed from the hotel’s CCTV.

He told the police that he filed a complaint at a police station in Asokoro against his estranged mistress, though evidence was not provided.

In June, Ohakim and the woman were interviewed by the police at the force headquarters.

Ms Amuchienwa tendered some documents to the police to counter Ohakim’s claims.

It was learnt that Ohakim’s lawyers N. Egwuonwu & Co. wrote to the IG on July 20 requesting copies of the documents tendered by Amuchienwa.

The news platform said it unsuccessfully tried to reach Ohakim’s brother Emmanuel for comments.

However, Amuchienwa told the police that the problem between her and the former governor began when he visited her shop in Lagos and made away with a designer suitcase, bags, shoes, and other luxury goods.

But Ohakim claimed the items were gifts from her.

“Two or three times she travelled out, she bought some gift items for me purely unsolicited and in reciprocal to mine. Items such as coffee, perfume, bag and shirt,” he said in his petition.

Amuchienwa also disputed the hotel incident but said she went only with a driver to Ohakim’s residence, met with his orderly and peacefully asked if he (Ohakim) had left her money with him.

Amuchienwa told the news platform that Ohakim gave her a “fake diamond ring” as an engagement ring, but the ex-governor said in his petition to the police that the ring was a gift.

A lawyer in the chambers handling Ohakim’s case Patrick Agu was contacted by the news platform to give an update on the case, but he did not return the call as promised.
