American TV host, Steve Harvey, seem not to be the only one making false pronouncements as the footballing world has also taken a cue from his howler at the 2015 Miss Universe contest.
Former Manchester City, star Trevor Sinclair, followed suit with tweets claiming Manchester United had fired manager Louis van Gaal, Tuesday evening.
Sinclair, 42, is a retired England International who featured at the 2002 World Cup and is fondly remembered during his four-year stint at United’s rivals, City.
Now assistant coach of Lancaster City, Sinclair continued a spate of hoax this week with his recent assertion that the Dutch tactician has left his role at the club.
A tweet from Sinclair’s verified Twitter account showed United chief executive Ed Woodward meeting super-agent Jorge Mendes.
The caption read: “LVG is to be sacked…… Think Ed Woodward is a City fan #onceablue.”
He added: “Old photo but LVG has gone.”
Sinclair, who won the FA Cup in 2008 with Cardiff City, followed his initial tweet by writing: “Jose’s in at the swamp.”
The connection between his tweet and former Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho, is that the Portuguese is represented by Mendes and is keen to take over at Old Trafford.
But it all appeared to be a big gimmick as Sinclair who doubles as pundit for BBC, backtracked and claimed his phone was stolen at a Christmas party.
He wrote: “School boy error left my phone on the table at a Christmas party sincere apologies for my last 2 tweets #Merrychristmas.
“Sorry to disappoint but cheer up you moody lot ….. He might not stay for the full duration of his deal.”
Maybe a prank or possibly a joke, a bulk of the United faithful would be praying it turns reality.
