A former military governor of Lagos and Imo Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd.) has died aged 77, his associate Joe Okei-Odumakin has said.
“I can confirm that he has passed on. This is very sad news. A statement will be issued soon,” she told PUNCH on Wednesday.
An official statement is expected to address the cause of death.
Kanu was appointed into the Supreme Military Council headed by the late head of state Gen. Murtala Muhammed in 1975.
He became a human rights activist after leaving the military and joined a pro-democracy movement, NADECO, which played a leading role in the agitation for the actualisation of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.
