A former 2nd Vice-President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Monday Ubani, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ubani and Senator Christopher Ania have been in EFCC detention since March 19 for standing as sureties for Ngozi Olejeme, who has failed to appear in court for her trial.
Mrs Olojeme, a former chairman of Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) from 2009 to 2015, is facing N6.4 billion fraud charge preferred against her by the EFCC.
Ubani’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, had on Tuesday secured permission of an FCT High Court in Apo to serve acting EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, through substituted means, for refusal to obey a court order for their release.
Justice Silvanus Orji, in his judgment on March 26, had ordered the EFCC to either charge the men to court immediately or release them on bail on or before March 28.
The commission has filed three charges against Ubani for failing to produce Olejeme.
