A former Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) newscaster Joy Osiagwu has been buried in her hometown in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Canada-based Mrs Osiagwu died on November 8, 2024 in Arewa Hospital, Jabi, Abuja after a brief illness.
Osiagwu was a news anchor, reporter, producer, videographer, film editor and media consultant with over two decades of full-time practice in the broadcast industry in Nigeria and North America.
She was media adviser/consultant to the immediate past Nigeria high commissioner to Canada Ambassador Adeyinka Asekun.
At a solemn night of memorial held in her honour, active and former NTA staff paid tributes to Osiagwu.
General overseer of Savannah Ministries Rev Arome Adah took a reading from Philippians 1: 23-24 and reminded the people that from God we came and to him we shall return, admonishing them to remain faithful.
“If you are in Christ dying is gain,” he said.
The deceased’s first son Kainechukwu Osiagwu said: “My mum was and always will be my greatest inspiration. Her love, kindness and strength shaped who I am today.”
NTA’s executive director of news Ayo Adewuyi said she was beautiful “inside out”.
NTA’s former executive director of programmes Eugenia Abu said Osiagwu was always vibrant and smiling.
Chairman/chief executive officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Abike Dabiri-Erewa assured the bereaved family of support.
The deceased’s brother-in-law Peter Osiagwu praised her for positively touching everyone in the family.
Former minister of women affairs Pauline Tallen also attended the event.
A night of tributes was held in a church in Canada where friends, family and loved ones eulogised Osiagwu.
At the wake, Osiagwu’s mother Rachael Attah said her daughter was resting with God.
The funeral service was held at Believing Faith Church in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
Osiagwu worked at NTA for 23 years and retired voluntarily in September 2019.
She is survived by her husband Ken Osiagwu, three children and an aged mother.
