Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of a former pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Prince Afolabi Olaoye as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomosoland.
In a statement on Saturday, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, said the announcement followed the processes specified under the law.
He said, “His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears.”
The last occupant of the stool Oba Jimoh Oyewumi died on December 12, 2021 aged 111.

Oba Oyewumi ascended the throne on October 24, 1973 and ruled the ancient town for 48 years.
The commissioner said the exalted position has placed the monarch-elect in the position to facilitate harmony, understanding and tolerance among his people.
Olayiwola also urged all sons and daughters of the ancient city of Ogbomoso to work with the monarch to consolidate the successes of his forefathers.
Olaoye was the lead pastor of the RCCG, Jesus House, Washington DC, United States before his resignation to become the Soun. He worked as an entrepreneur before becoming a pastor in 1992. Olaoye holds a bachelor’s degree in English Language and master’s degree in industrial and labour relations.
