The operatives of the Rapid Response Team (RRS) have arrested a 19-year-old former student of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos (YABATECH), who allegedly threatened to publish nude photos of Waka musician, Salawa Abeni.
This is is according to a statement released by the RRS on Twitter on Sunday.
“Our Decoy team have arrested a man who tried blackmailing the popular fuji artiste, Salawa Abeni with her nude photos. He claims he got them from a memory card which he found on the floor while in school. He has been transfered to State CID, Panti for further investigation,” it reads.
The suspect identified as Oladunjoye Olufowoke, was arrested on Thursday picked up after being monitored by the team for three months.
The RRS quoted Olufowoke, who lives in Magboro, Ogun State as saying: “On 1st of April, 2020, I chatted her up and also called her after sending few of the photos to her online.
“My intention was to negotiate with her for few bucks and for me to destroy the photographs.
“I thought everything was going on fine until the following day when I heard the news of the blackmail over the radio. I was with my mother. She was even cursing the blackmailer unknown to her that I was the brain behind it.
“I immediately sneaked out, destroyed the memory card and threw my mobile phone and SIM card into nearby wetland in Magboro. Since then, I never mentioned it to anyone and called Madam Salawa Abeni about it again.”
Salawa Abeni had on April 1, exposed the plot to blackmail her with revealing photos.
The 59-year-old announced that she had decided release the photos herself to take the power away from the alleged blackmailer.
Following her announcement, she received an outpouring of support from fans and celebrities like Saidi Balogun, Ufuoma McDermott, Uche Jombo and Bobrisky among others.
Other female celebrities such as media personality, Toke Makinwa, actress, Belinda Effah and ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Tacha, also came forward with similar plots to allegedly blackmail them, this time with edited nude photos.
While singer, Seyi Shay, on May 22, blamed the release of her nude photos on the hacking of her Instagram account.
