Players of Fortuna Sittard have hailed the appointment of ex-Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, as manager of the Eerste Divisie club.
Oliseh took over the helms on a one-and-a-half year contract after Ben van Dael was dismissed following poor results in the first half of the season.
Club skipper, Ferry de Regt, who has fond memories of the 42-year-old while at another Dutch side, Ajax, believes the Nigerian has the pedigree to improve their dismal fortunes.
“I knew him directly from Ajax,” Regt told the club’s official website.
“Oliseh played of course for big clubs. So he brings a lot of experience to the team. Let’s have a nice, second half of the season.”
Joining his captain is right-back, Christopher Braun, a German-born Nigerian who recalls the impact the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder had on his career.
“I am very happy. When Oliseh played football in Germany, he was one of my favourite players. A very good choice of Fortuna.”
Another player, Roald van Hout, added: “The first thing that crossed my mind was what a big name in football the club contracted.
“As a player, he experienced a lot and that’s very interesting. Automatically, Oliseh gains a lot of respect by the players. Everybody in football knows him.”
After 19 rounds in the Dutch second-tier, Fortuna Sittard are staring relegation in the face, with only 15 points accumulated and occupy 18th position.
