Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, last weekend released a list of 24 players to accomplish the forthcoming 2017 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria.
As expected, there was a major shake-up in the squad as several players lost their places for the clash with the Desert Foxes in Uyo on November 12.
Here are four observations from the squad released by the Franco-German.
- Door open to all
Rohr’s recent invitation of the likes of John Ogu, Dele Alampasu, Oghenekaro Etebo and other new faces shows that the gaffer is open to new invitees.
- Rohr has favourites
Since Rohr’s took charge of the Super Eagles, about 15 players have featured in all three games. They include the likes of Mikel Obi, Carl Ikeme, Leon Balogun, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho.
- Local players not on Rohr’s plans
Aside FC IfeanyiUbah goalkeeper, Kelechi Ezenwa, no other Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) player was invited for the clash against Algeria. This highlights the gaffer’s preference for foreign based stars over the local lads.
- No second chance for fringe players
Rohr’s resolve to constantly inject new faces to his team automatically halts the chances of others. Nosa Igiebor, Anderson Esiti, Jamiu Alimi and Emmanuel Daniel all lost their places after failing to impress the German.
