France break three records to reach World Cup final

France

France dug deep to beat Belgium 1-0 on Tuesday to reach the FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Samuel Umtiti’s first-half strike was enough for the 1998  champions.

Les Bleus made it to the biggest stage for the first time in 12 years.

Since Zinedine Zidane’s exit from professional football, France has experienced good and bad moments on the pitch, but now, they will prepare for one more game, where they will try to exorcize the demons that haunt them after losing the 2016 UEFA Euro at home.

In defeating the Red Devils, the French side broke three records.

Didier Deschamps became the first ever manager in France history to reach the final of two major tournaments (EURO 2016 & World Cup 2018).

It’s also the first time since 1998 that three defenders (Lizarazu, Blanc & Thuram) scored a goal for France in the same World Cup (Pavard, Varane & Umtiti).

After his assist today, Antoine Griezmann confirmed himself as one of France’s most decisive players in this competition.

Only Harry Kane (6 goals) has been involved in more goals at the 2018 World Cup than the Atletico Madrid star (3 goals, 2 assists).
