The Super Falcons of Nigeria were defeated by a narrow margin in their match against France.
They lost 1-0 to the host nation in their match on Monday.
The only goal of the match came through a contentious penalty call.
France’s Reynard had initially missed the penalty, but VAR revealed that Nigerian keeper, Nnadozie, had moved before the shot and the refreee ordered the penalty to be retaken.
Nigeria finished 3rd in the group after the game as rivals Norway secured a win over South Korea to advance to the next round.
The ladies are forced to wait to seal qualification to the Round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria needs results from other groups to go in their favour in order to move to the next round.
The Super Falcons failed to qualify for the knockout stages in the last World Cup in 2015.
