Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho showed a different class on Thursday night as Omonia Nicosia lost 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on match-day 4 of the Europa League.
Uzoho had 10 shots on target thrown at him in the first half alone and was the major reason Omonia maintained the respectable scoreline.
The Nigerian made a series of impressive saves as the visiting Cypriots frustrated the Red Devils in front of their home fans.
In the 56th minute, Uzoho made a superb double-save to deny Bruno Fernandes the opener.
Substitute Scott McTominay grabbed the winner with virtually the last kick of the game in the 93rd minute to break Omonia hearts.
Uzoho’s performance was top-notch such that United players like Cristiano Ronaldo and McTominay recognised his efforts.
Speaking with BT Sport at full time, the 23-year-old said, “I am not disappointed because we had a good game.
“I would’ve preferred to get at least a point, but I’m happy because it’s not an easy stadium to play in with these big players. I’m happy in general!”
When asked if he was a United fan, the Nigeria international let out a big smile and said: “Yeah, yeah! It’s a dream come true for me. I have dreamed to play here for a long time.
“When I saw the draw and figured I would be playing at Old Trafford, I wanted to play and I prayed to God to get an opportunity to play. I got it and I’m happy I played here.”
On Twitter, Uzoho, still buzzing from his performance wrote, “Today my dream came through. Old traford I will never forget tonight GGMU ❤️IN CHRIST ALONE 🙏🏽@ManUtd.”
McTominay paid tribute to Uzoho in his post-match interview, claiming he was ‘different class’.
The midfielder said: “You have to be patient sometimes. Marcus (Rashford) had so many chances and he did everything but score.
“Their goalkeeper was a different class but we created enough chances and deserved to score in the end.”
