Singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has found himself at the center of fresh controversy after his mother, Rose Idibia, publicly pleaded with Edo lawmaker Natasha Osawaru to release him.
Mrs. Idibia made the appeal on Thursday night on the Instagram pages of her other sons, Charles and Hyacinth Idibia.
Hyacinth, who also serves as 2Baba’s manager, amplified their mother’s message, in which she claimed the singer was not in the right state of mind due to his ongoing divorce battle with Annie Idibia.
According to Mrs. Idibia, 2Baba is under a spell and she urged Ms. Osawaru to remove the beads he was wearing, which she believes are influencing him.
“Good evening, Nigerians. My name is Mrs. Rose Idibia, the mother of 2Face. This message is for Miss Natasha Osawaru of Edo State. I’m calling on all mothers in Nigeria to help me beg her to free my son,” she said.
“My son is going through a divorce process, and he is clearly not in his right senses now. I know my son well. That is not him. Please, Natasha, the beads you put on his hand and on his neck, remove them and free him,” she pleaded.
Her remarks have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many questioning the nature of 2Baba’s relationship with the lawmaker.
The controversy follows a viral video in which the ‘African Queen’ singer was seen proposing to Osawaru after publicly announcing his separation from Annie Idibia.
In the footage, 2Baba and Osawaru danced closely at a gathering, surrounded by cheering friends. He then presented her with a ring before they shared a warm embrace.
A day before the video emerged, 2Baba had publicly declared his love for Osawaru on social media, insisting that she had nothing to do with his marital issues.
“I have seen so many things, so many people coming up with their own false narratives and malicious nonsense after I posted that stuff. Yes, I posted what I posted,” he said.
“Hon. Natasha has been dragged, she has been called all sorts of names, she has been labelled as a home breaker. She is a young, brilliant, amazing woman, and she had nothing to do with what is happening between me and Annie in our marriage. Yes, I love her. She is amazing, and she is cool. I want to marry her.”
Before 2Baba’s public declaration, rumours had been swirling after he was spotted at the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday.
Another clip also surfaced, showing him with Osawaru at a Lagos nightclub, further intensifying speculation.
Osawaru, a rising political figure, was elected into the Edo State House of Assembly in April 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She hails from Egor Local Government Area and has been actively involved in legislative matters in the state.
She is the daughter of Desmond and Philomina Osawaru and the granddaughter of Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, a well-known businessman and philanthropist.
