Alhaji Hassan Abdulyakeen, the Gwagwalada Unit Coordinator of the Special Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has advised motorists to always drive with caution to reduce road accidents in the area.
Abdulyakeem gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) during the inauguration of a road sign project by the NYSC Road Safety Club on Monday in Gwagwalada.
According to him, the Community Development Service (CDS) project by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, serving with the command was a step in the right direction.
He added that the command had recently organised a seminar for school coordinators/patrons of the Road Safety Club of primary and secondary schools in the area.
“The essence of this road sign project is to caution motorists on the dangers of reckless driving and the need to obey road traffic rules and regulations.
“We advise all motorists to drive at normal speed limit; use and maintain good tyres and ensure that their tyres are properly gauged to prevent road crashes.
“We also urge all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and avoid beating the traffic lights for their safety,” he said.
The marshal also advised motorists to ensure that they fix good wipers and stay away from the danger of using expired tyres to avoid crashes during the rainy season.
He further advised the NYSC members to be good ambassadors of the society after they pass out, adding that hard work will always shape their destiny.
On his part, the NYSC zonal inspector, Mr Elisha Zaradiya, said he was impressed with the project by the Corp members as it would go a long way in reducing accidents in the area.
He said that accidents are not mere occurrences but due to negligence on the part of motorists and use of expired and second-hand tyres.
The inspector, however, cautioned motorists against reckless driving, excessive speed, use of expired tyres and the need to fix good wipers during the rainy season.
