Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Saturday attended the 60th birthday party of ex-Niger Delta agitator Asari Dokubo at Novotel Hotel, Stadium Road, Port Harcourt.

Several personalities in the state, including oil mogul Tein Jack-Rich, were present to celebrate Dokubo, the Edi Abali of Kalabari.

Speaking at the occasion, Fubara said, “I honestly feel happy coming here to celebrate with you. I know what it means to live every day, when you are in a certain position, it is not comfort that keeps you. Every day when you wake up, you give God all the glory and pray that you see the next day. I join other voices to wish you the best.

“At this particular time in our country and in our state, all we do as friends and good people of our state is to support the development of our state genuinely. You have listed the few projects we are embarking on and those we intend to do. I am not from Kalabari but I know the importance of that road, (Trans Kalabari Road project). I believe strongly that what I will be remembered for is not what I do for my Opobo people, but what I do in every part of the state.”

Fubara shared photos taken at the party on social media, noting that the event was a lesson in love and loyalty.

He said, “I attended the 60th birthday of one of Rivers State’s most vibrant Niger Delta ex-agitators and leaders, Alhaji Asari Dokubo. The event was a lesson in love and loyalty as the atmosphere exuded conviviality and radiated immense joy.

“I joined several Rivers people and well-meaning Nigerians to celebrate the occasion and to wish for God’s grace upon his life.

“I also used the opportunity to solicit for the support of the people in advancing the frontiers of our dear State, especially as we embark on life touching projects that include the Trans Kalabari road. The project has the capacity to open up the Kalabari area to the world and unlock our tourism and economic potentials on that axis.”

Actress Hilda Dokubo, who is a native of Kalabari, celebrated Dokubo on social media and shared a video showing cultural display at the party.

“The kalabari Ijaw culture is awesome. We are always glad and proud to share its beauty with you. Today Alabo Alh. Asari Dokubo the Edi Abali of kalabari land turned 60. May God bless him with more years,” she wrote.

Since falling out with his predecessor Nyesom Wike, Fubara has been associating with Wike’s political foes including Dokubo.
