Actress Funke Akindele has announced she will be taking a break from Nollywood following her selection as the running mate of Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, the governorship candidate under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State.
The 44-year-old made the announcement in an Instagram post on Tuesday July 12.
Funke stated that taking a break from the movie industry is a personal sacrifice she is willing to pursue her political career.
“Over the years a lot of people have been ignored, victimised for daring to have a dream, I use this opportunity to call out all well-meaning residents of Lagos especially the youths, It’s indeed time to use our numerical strength to our own advantage. It’s time to take our rightful place in matters that concerns our lives and future.
“It’s time to rally ourselves and support our own. I am not unaware of the cost of this assignment on my vibrant career which is why I must put it on hold. It’s a huge personal sacrifice but my resolve is that the sacrifice isn’t too much for the actualization of the urgent mission to rescue our people and our dear state,” she said in parts.
