Actress Funke Akindele on Wednesday took to Instagram to honour her late mother, R. B. Adebanjo-Akindele, on what would have been her 70th birthday.
The emotional tribute included touching words, photos, and a video, capturing the essence of a beloved matriarch whose influence shaped Funke’s illustrious career.
“Happy 70th birthday to the most selfless, loving, and supportive mom in the world! Today would have been a monumental milestone, and I wish you were here to celebrate with me,” Funke wrote.
Her message reflected deep admiration and gratitude, describing her mother as a pivotal figure in her life and career.
Funke reminisced about her mother’s unwavering support, highlighting how it fueled her success in the entertainment industry. “Your unwavering belief in my dreams, especially my acting career, has been the driving force behind my success. I remember when I struggled in academics, you didn’t push me to conform; instead, you encouraged my passion for dance and drama,” she added.
The actress also expressed her enduring gratitude for her mother’s sacrifices and the enduring legacy she left behind. “I’m forever grateful for the sacrifices you made. Your legacy lives on through me, and I promise to continue making you proud,” she wrote.
Funke’s heartfelt tribute comes just over a year after the passing of her mother in February 2023. Despite the loss, Funke achieved a career milestone the same year with the release of her blockbuster film, A Tribe Called Judah, which grossed an impressive N1.4 billion in the box office.
