Funke Akindele, Kunle Afod, others mourn veteran actor Charles Olumo ‘Agbako’

Actors Funke Akindele, Kunle Afod, Mercy Aigbe and others have joined in mourning veteran actor Abdulsalam Ishola widely known as Charles Olumo or Agbako.

The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association (TAMPAN) president, Bolaji Amusan popularly known as Mr. Latin announced Agbako’s death on Thursday.

Sharing a photo of the revered actor on Instagram, he wrote, “@tampanglobal announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO. Details of the burial arrangements will be shared at a later time. Good night, father. 25/02/1923 to 31/10/2024.”

Following the news, condolences poured in from fans and celebrities alike.

Actor Jide Kosoko wrote, “Good night ooo, Baba Charles. a.k.a Agbako, 102 years, ba wasa ba. R I P.”

Actress Funke Akindele commented, “Awwwwww may his soul rest in peace. Wow. Oluwa tobi loba.”

Filmmaker Kazim Adeoti said, “May his soul rest in peace. Orun ‘re o Baba.”

Actress Mercy Aigbe simply wrote, “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Actress Biodun Okeowo, popularly known as Omoborty, added: “Rest well sir. No matter how old our loved ones are, we never want to see them go! Kudos boss Afod for all you do.”

Actor Kunle Afod also paid his respects saying, “Good night pa Charles Olumo (Baba Agbako), the oldest actor. 101 years, Sun re ooo, O dabo, O di Oju Ala.”

Born in 1923, Agbako was a beloved figure whose portrayal of powerful, often fearsome characters, including chiefs, warriors and villains left a lasting impression.

Off-screen, he led a quiet family life with his two wives and five children.
