Skitmaker Ijoba Lande has stirred controversy on social media after publicly calling out award-winning filmmaker Funke Akindele for allegedly underpaying him for a month-long job.
During his TikTok live session on Thursday, Lande recounted how he was paid N90,000 after working for an entire month on one of Funke’s projects.
According to him, the experience left him disillusioned and taught him valuable lessons about knowing one’s worth in the entertainment industry.
“That Funke Akindele… when I went to work for her, I spent a whole month at Amen Estate. I was living in Ayobo and I was married then. I would rush home anytime there was no serious work,” he said.
“After the whole month, I wasn’t even paid N150,000. I swear to God.”
Lande revealed that Funke had contacted him via direct message after she enjoyed one of his skits.
He expressed excitement at the opportunity, thinking it could mark a breakthrough in his career.
However, upon arrival at the filming location, he was presented with a contract by a woman named Wendy, who introduced herself as the producer.
“I saw the contract said N90,000 per month. I thought it was just paperwork and didn’t think much of it,” he recalled.
“But to my surprise, that’s exactly what I was paid after the month ended.”
Lande admitted that his eagerness to work with a high-profile figure like Funke made him overlook key details, including negotiating proper compensation.
He also shared his discomfort during the project, saying he never felt comfortable enough to ask for a photo with Funke and described her as unapproachable.
“All the time that I worked for her, we never took a single picture. She was never approachable. I hate begging people to take pictures because I don’t want to be insulted,” he said.
“Even if Wizkid or Davido comes here, I will only greet them. I’m not photogenic.”
“To all you upcoming creatives—don’t look at anyone as a god. If someone truly values your work, they will pay you your worth,” he added.
“Even if it’s Michael Jackson now, I will tell him the specific amount I want to collect.”
As of the time of this report, Funke Akindele has not responded publicly to the allegations.
