Rapper and filmmaker Abdulrasheed Bello, better known as JJC Skillz, has announced his separation from actress Funke Akindele.
JJC announced the separation in an Instagram post on Thursday, June 30.
According to the rapper, the last two years have been difficult for them and he tried his best to make things work. He added that Funke asked him to leave their matrimonial home three months ago.
The 45-year-old noted that he was making the announcement to clear the air and make it known to the public that they have decided to pursue separate lives.
He wrote: “Dear Friends and family I need to let you know that Funke and I have separated. While it lasted we shared a lot of things together and have created 2 beautiful children. The last two years have been extremely difficult for us. I know I have tried my best to fix things but I believe it is beyond repair now.
“3 months ago and at Funke’s insistence I moved out of the house and apart from AMVCA have not been able to get Funke to sit down in an amicable manner to discuss the future of our relationship. I’m making this announcement so that the public is clear that we both are pursuing separate lives. We still have issues that need to be addressed such as the custody and wellbeing of our children which is paramount as well as business interests that need to be disentangled but I have no doubt that these will be resolved one way or the other.”
Speculations that their marriage was in crisis started after JJC’s son, Benito Bello, claimed he lived with the couple for two years and the experience was a horror. He accused JJC of assaulting him, adding that Funke is not what she is believed to be.
The couple, however, tried to shut down the rumour by publicly declaring love for each other but things spiraled out of control when Benito’s mum, Mella, threatened to expose the actress and her husband if they do not leave her family alone.
Funke and JJC got married in a private ceremony in London on August 23, 2016, the eve of her 39th birthday.
The couple welcomed their twins in 2018.
