Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has cancelled the annual traditional Sallah event, Hawan Nassarawa, scheduled for Thursday (today), citing security reasons.
Ganduje, after meeting with security chiefs ahead of the celebrations, said that intelligence report indicated likely breach of peace during the event.
In a statement late Wednesday by his spokesman, Abba Anwar, the governor said that ‘for this reason’ he was not relenting in declaring Hawan Nassarawa cancelled.
“After the security meeting, the Kano Metropolitan Emirate Council was duly informed about the intelligence report and the cancellation of Hawan Nassarawa,” the statement said.
