Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has demanded an apology from the management of East Carolina University over a false appointment offered him into the position of senior mentoring scholar and visiting full professor of e-governance and international affairs.
A lecturer of International Center for IT and Development at the varsity Victor Mbarika had communicated the false appointment to Mr Ganduje on November 30.
However, following a letter by the US-based university’s interim provost and senior vice-chancellor for academic affairs, Grant Hayes, disowning the said appointment letter, Kano State Government called for disciplinary action against the faculty member that stirred up the controversy.
A statement on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Usman Alhaji reads: ‘’We are deeply saddened by the uproar stirred up by this controversial appointment that attempted to embarrass the person of the governor and the good people of Kano state.”
The SSG listed Ganduje’s credentials, adding that he never solicited for the appointment.
While wishing the university the best of luck, the government expressed shock over the content of the letter from Mr Hayes.
