Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has launched a fresh probe into the expenditure of the Kano Emirate Council headed by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Ganduje, through Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, has requested the council’s expenditure from 2013 to 2019.

The commission, in a letter dated May 2, and signed by its head of operations, Suleiman Gusau, invited an aide to the Emir, Isa Bayero, to appear before it on Thursday over alleged financial misappropriation.

It is alleged that Sanusi did not support Ganduje’s re-election bid, and with the Emir’s growing popularity, reports suggest that Ganduje intends to break the emirate into four to reduce Sanusi’s powers.

Part of the letter read: “Pursuant to provision of section 31(1) (a) and (b) of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Law 2008 (as amended) requested release of the officer to explain payment vouchers from 2013 to 2017.

“It directed Isa. S. Bayero to be at the commission conference room by 12.00noon on Thursday, May 9, over an investigation on alleged violation of section 26 of the commission’s enabling Law in the management of Kano State Emirate Council Fund.”

The commission had in 2018 commenced probe against Sanusi before the state House of Assembly intervened.
