Buhari’s children free to use presidential jet – Garba Shehu

Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, has defended the use of a presidential jet by Hanan Buhari, daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Hanan was flown to Bauchi on Thursday with the presidential jet for a private function.

She was said to have been invited by the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Adamu, as a special guest of honour to witness the Durbar.

Photos of her trip have been circulating on social media with criticism over the use of the jet by Hanan.

Mr Shehu, however, told Punchng.com on Saturday that the President’s wife and children have the right to use the jet whenever the need arises.

Shehu said Hanan received approval from her father who in turn informed the National Security Adviser.

“The normal practice in existence for a long time is that the Presidential Air fleet is available to the President and the first family and four others. These four are the Vice President, the Senate President the Speaker and any other person(s) authorised by the President,” he said.

Hanan recently graduated with a first-class in Photography from Ravensbourne University, London.

She was received on Thursday on arrival in Bauchi by the governor’s wife and state officials.

It was gathered that Hanan will make a gallery using photographs of the traditional durbar, Bauchi architecture and other cultural sites in the state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had promised to sell off some of the jets in the Presidential fleet due to high maintenance cost.

Two helicopters out of 10 were donated to the Nigerian Air Force. But it was unclear if two presidential aircraft, a Falcon 7X executive jet and Hawker 4000, which were advertised for sale in October 2016, have been sold.
