Honourable Abdulmuminin Jibrin has expressed certainty that Femi Gbajabiamila will emerge as the next speaker of House of Representatives.
Jibrin represents Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency of Kano State in the lower chambers.
Jibrin, a former chairman of House Committee on Appropriations, became popular in 2018 when he raised allegations of budget padding by lawmakers, a term used to describe the injection of constituency projects into the budget by lawmakers.
In a programme on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the lawmaker berated critics of his party, All Progressives Congress (APC), for the zoning formula to fill leadership positions in the ninth National Assembly.
“I am not afraid. I have said it repeatedly and you can take this to the bank inshallah (God willing) Femi (Gbajabiamila) is going to be the speaker. It is as good as that,” he said.
Jibrin added: “Just a few months ago, both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoned the presidential slot to the northern part of the country and of course the vice-presidential slot to the southern part of the country.
“They all supported it. We all applauded. Everybody supported it, all of them one after the other. Now a few months after, they are saying we don’t want to zone. So what does that tell you? Is it all about self?”
