Warri Wolves striker, Gbolaham Salami, has emerged as the top scorer of the just concluded 2014/15 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
The Super Eagles star scored twice as his side thrashed Taraba United 5-1 in a rescheduled Premier League tie played on Monday – taking his season’s tally to 17.
Although the striker was unable to surpass the 23-goal record set by Enyimba’s Mfon Udoh last term, the 24-year-old notched crucial goals that took his side to second-place on the log, thereby securing a continental ticket.
Salami who isn’t new to hitting double figures, will be presented with a special award named after the legendary all-time scorer, Rashidi Yekini.
The player saw-off competition from Sunshine Stars’ Tunde Adeniji, who was a goal shy of Salami’s tally after failing to score in Sunday’s barren draw against champions, Enyimba.
It is still uncertain if the former Sunshine striker will be plying his trade locally next season with reports linking him with a move abroad.
