Nollywood actress Genevieve held a private screening for her directorial debut Lionheart at Silverbird Cinema in Victoria Island, Lagos on Thursday.
The screening held amid allegation that some cinema houses have refused to show the movie.
Present at the exclusive event were Genevieve’s family, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Betty Irabor, Peter Okoye, Noble Igwe, Bolanle Austen-Peters and Phyno.
Posting a picture of herself and Ebuka on Instagram, Genevieve wrote: “Gather here for a selfie if you have been waiting for this day.”
The movie will begin general screening at Silverbird and Genesis cinemas this weekend.
Filmhouse, which the actress named as one of those leading a gang-up against the movie, has not slated it for screening.
Chairman of Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) Patrick Lee in a statement released on Wednesday said that the Lionheart team did not adhere to the processes involved in exhibiting a film in cinemas in the country, which is why some “rightly refused to take the movie.”
Starring Genevieve, Pete Edochie, Onyeka Onwenu and Nkem Owoh among others, Lionheart was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
It has been acquired by Netflix for a January 4 release.
