Jamaican-American rapper, Bushwick Bill, has died of cancer at the age of 52, representatives of the singer have confirmed.
Bushwick, born Richard Stephen Shaw, died on Sunday evening at a local hospital surrounded by his family in Houston.
“Bushwick Bill passed away peacefully this evening at 9:35 p.m.,” the statement reads. “There were incorrect previous reports that he had passed away this morning. We are looking into doing a public memorial at a later date. His family appreciates all of the prayers and support and are asking for privacy at this time.”
He was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in February and was undergoing chemotherapy.
He was best known as a member of the pioneering Texas hip hop group, Geto Boys, a group he originally joined as a dancer in 1986 as Little Billy.
He went on to become one third of the best-known incarnation of the group, alongside Willie D and Scarface.
They were known for such tracks as Mind Playing Tricks On Me an Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta.
The trio were apparently trying to organise a reunion tour but it fell through when Bill reportedly fell out with the tour organisers.
