Yvonne Nelson has no love for the Ghana Movie Awards(GMA).
The Ghanaian actress on Thursday expressed her disappointment at the awards show in a Twitter post.
According to Yvonne, the GMA is meaningless, pointless and a big joke.
The House of Gold star also stated that she was warned by her crew not to submit her movies for nominations.
This reaction comes after the movie, Beast of No Nations starring Idris Elba, scooped 12 awards out of 15 nominations at the just concluded GMA.
It can be recalled that earlier this month, Yvonne voiced that Beast of No Nation which was directed by Emmy award-winning film maker, Cary Joji Fukunaga, does not deserve to be nominated for the GMA just because it was produced in Ghana.
“It’s not fair to all of us if they submit that movie because it is not a Ghanaian production. The fact that it was shot in Ghana doesn’t make it a Ghanaian production. So I won’t agree to that. If we are trying to promote our own, why will we go for a foreign production? You cannot compare a Hollywood production to a Ghanaian movie. The budgets are totally different,” she said.
Since the movie and Yvonne Nelson’s latest offering If Tomorrow Never Comes had to battle it out in various categories, her movie only went home with two awards – Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
Honestly tho….Shouldn’t have submitted my movie! Crew told me.Awards are meaningless! Pointless! Thanks but no thanks. GMA? A big JOKE
