Actress Sola Sobowale has shared a reflection on her career, resilience and the mission she believes God has purposed for her.
Speaking at the KAP Film and Television Academy workshop in Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday, the 58-year-old actress revealed that she is far from retiring.
The program which was a collaboration between Kunle Afolayan’s KAP Academy and the United States Embassy attracted a host of notable figures from the entertainment and arts community.
Among them were veteran filmmaker Tunde Kelani, KAP Academy director Seun Soyinka, visual artist and cinematographer Erin Wesley, and award-winning American director Angel Williams.
QEDNG publisher Olumide Iyanda was also in attendance along with Sola herself.
Consul General at the US Consulate in Lagos Will Stevens was the special guest.
In an interview with QEDNG, Sola made it clear that retirement is not on her radar.
“I’m not ready to retire. I am just starting,” she declared, dismissing any notion that her career might be winding down.
Reflecting on her journey, the actress spoke of how she balances her career and family, crediting her success to a higher purpose.
“I keep saying God ordained me for a particular purpose. And that purpose is putting smiles on people’s faces,” she shared, adding that her work transcends mere acting. “If I am not a doctor, I will be a preacher, a teacher, or an entertainer. Everything I have touched, I have done it and I have been there.”
She expressed gratitude to her fans, acknowledging their support as a key factor in her continued relevance.
“You people made me relevant because you are supporting me. With God and you people around me, I am just starting. The sky is my beginning.”
Referring to the media’s tendency to spread unverified stories she firmly stated, “They can’t spoil my name.”
She continued, quoting a popular Yoruba proverb, “Who God has planted, no man can uproot.”
In May, Sobowale clarified rumours surrounding an alleged drug trafficking arrest in Saudi Arabia.
During an episode of the King of Talk podcast with Teju Babyface, she recounted the false claims that she had been killed in Saudi Arabia.
She revealed that after moving to the UK to work menial jobs, a report surfaced suggesting she had died while in the Middle East, a story that shocked her fans when they saw her alive upon her return to Nigeria.
