The administrators of GoFundMe, a fundraising platform, have pulled down an account set up to support the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 election, Atiku Abubakar, in his move to challenge the election results at the tribunal.
The account was set up on Tuesday by unnamed sponsors.
Reports say over $800 (N288, 000) out of the target of $100,000 (N36million) was donated within 24 hours.
Atiku, on Wednesday, dissociated himself from the GoFundMe account.
The former Vice President through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, said he was not in any way connected to the account; he, however, acknowledged it as a private move without discountenancing the initiative.
“We do not know anything about it. We are not in any way connected to it but we consider it as a purely private initiative of the promoters,” he said.
The said account had generated controversy on social media. While some said the former vice president was rich enough to see through his petition at the tribunal, others said they would not mind taking it as a public project.
