Former President Goodluck Jonathan and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce on Thursday congratulated singer, Wizkid, for winning the best international act award at the just concluded Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards 2017.

Jonathan expressed his feelings with a brief congratulatory note via his official Facebook Page.

“When Nigeria does well, I cannot help but feel well, my happiness is tied to the happiness of Nigeria and when Nigerians break records and take the name of Nigeria to greater heights it exhilarates me.

“Thank you Wizkid for raising Nigeria’s flag high for the positive, not the negative, your emergence as the Best International Act at the #MOBOAwards is a proud moment for Nigeria,” he said.

The 60-year-old politician added that Wizkid defeating top American artistes such as Jay-Z, Cardi-B, Solange, Drake, SZA, DJ Khaled, Travis Scott, Migos and Kendrick Lamar makes the award more celebratory.

He wrote: “And the fact that you emerged over Jay-Z and Drake makes it even more celebratory, well done, GEJ.”

Founder of Silverbird Group and member of the People’s Democratic Party representing Bayelsa East constituency in the Senate, Ben Murray-Bruce also congratulated the ‘Ojuelegba’ singer on his achievement.

The 61-year-old politician who said he has been in the entertainment business as an investor since 1980 said in a Twitter post that one of the proudest moments for Nigerian music “is the day you defeated both Jayz and Drake, two of the biggest stars in the world, to win the Best International Act”.

Wizkid who recently welcomed his third child was not the only Nigerian awarded at the event as Davido was also named best African act, defeating Mr Eazi, Tekno, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal and Wizkid.
