Former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Vice President Namadi Sambo on Sunday attended the wedding dinner of Shehu Yar’Adua and Yacine Sheriff at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Shehu is the son of the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua. The bride is the daughter of Mohammed Sheriff, a member of the House of Representatives.
Also present at the dinner was President Muhammadu Buhari’s chief of staff Prof Ibrahim Gambari, first lady Aisha Buhari, former Senate President Bukola Saraki and his wife Toyin, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of former military dictator Maryam Abacha.
Others were Senator Andy Uba, former governor of Cross River State Donald Duke, vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 polls, Yusuf Baba-Ahmed; Mustapha Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, among others.
The wedding fatiha held on July 23 in Maiduguri, Borno State at the Sheriff family house situated along Giwa barracks, Maiduguri.
President Buhari was represented by the minister of aviation Hadi Sirika.
Others at the wedding fatiha included Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, and his counterparts; Kebbi State Governor Atiku Bagudu and Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru.
The bride’s uncle and former governor of Borno state, Senator Ali Sheriff, led other dignitaries to the ceremony including the former Bauchi State governor Adamu Ma’azu, former governor of Gombe Senator Danjuma Goje, former governor of Katsina Ibrahim Shemma.
Also in attendance were one time governor of kebbi State, Senator Adamu Alero; former governor of Bauchi state, Isa Yuguda; former Secretary General of the Federation, Yayale Ahmed, a former governor of Zamfara State, Ahmed Yarima; and NNPC group chief executive officer Mele Kyari among others.
Emir of Daura, Farauk Umar, represented the groom’s father, and presented a dowry of 24 gold coins which was accepted by the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Al-Amin Elkemi, who represented the bride’s father during the ceremony.
Other dignitaries who graced the wedding fatiha were former governor of Kano State and the NNPP Presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, representative of the Oba of Benin and representative of the Emir of Gwando were also duly represented.
