The family of gospel singer, Kefee Don Momoh, has refuted reports that the artiste who passed on in the early hours of Friday in an American hospital where she was admitted after slipping into coma 15 days ago, died with a six-month pregnancy.
There had been speculations that she died from complications arising from pre-eclampsia, a disorder of pregnancy characterised by high blood pressure and large amounts of protein in the urine
A statement signed by her UK manager, Adeline Adebayo, on behalf of the family reads: “It is with a great sadness but grateful hearts that we announce the passing to glory due to lungs failure this morning of our God’s mouth piece, chorus leader, daughter, wife, sister, friend Kefee Branama Queen.
“May her beautiful, gentle and precious soul rest in perfect peace.”
The statement added that “in contrast to all earlier rumours and stories in circulation, I do state that Kefee wasn’t six months pregnant and neither did she have pre-eclampsia.”
Kefee whose music career started at age eight in her church choir, was famous for her gospel songs ‘Branama’ and ‘Kokoroko’. She won several awards including the best collaboration Headies in 2010.
Until her death, she resided happily with her husband in the US and managed her restaurant, Branama Kitchen, in Lagos.
QED learnt that the singer had finished recording songs for her upcoming album in Nigerian and was returning to Chicago where she was based when she passed out on a plane.
Wazobia FM presenter, Steve Onu (Yaw), a close friend of her husband, Teddy Don Momoh was one of the first to confim the news of her death on air on Friday saying: “One of her our very own is dead. May her soul rest in peace.”
