Gunmen on Wednesday attacked former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Chukwuma Soludo in Anambra State.
Soludo was attending an event at Isuofia community in Aguata LGA when gunmen stormed the area.
When contacted, Anambra police commissioner Sunday Kuryas confirmed the attack to Channels TV.
He said details were still sketchy but reports from his men in the area said three police orderlies attached to him were gunned down while the state commissioner for public utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne, was taken away by the gunmen.
“I can confirm that there was a gathering in Isuofia community where Prof. Soludo and other personalities gathered for a meeting on Wednesday, March 31, 2021,” Anambra police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga told NAN.
“For now, we can only speak of the gunshots, but other details especially on whether there were causalities or not will be when we get more facts.”
Soludo is a frontline aspirant for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra.
